Day of the Dead (or All Saints Day)

Day of the Dead ~ Día de los Muertos
Always in Love   by Robin Horasanian  Collage # 3135 & Sabor
Day of the Dead has been celebrated in Mexico on November 1 & 2 for as long as can be remembered.  We as artists enjoy the holiday as an opportunity to create colorful and happy art.  Even though the name might imply sadness, it is a happy celebration.   Read all the way down to see truly fun projects done by our team and to learn a bit more about the Holiday. Halloween party

Fantastic and beautiful Crafters Workshop stencils were the inspiration for my piece this month. I was enchanted by the amazing and varied stencils from Gabrielle Pollacco at TCW . I wanted to go colourful (as I usually do ) and here is the result.

Journal page for Altered Pages with TCW by June Macfarlane.
The journal page background was created with various Acrylic paints mixed in blue, yellow and green. I literally just 'Made a mess '.
After drying with a heat-gun I chose the 'Crazy waves' stencil from TCW  and used more paint in the same colours but deeper hues over the stencil randomly rather than exact as the stencil is.

I decided to brighten it more and add a little sparkle for the 'party atmosphere', I used gel pens, Wink of Stella and white paint pen for the doodling.
Next it was time to 'holiday it up' I chose the fabulous Dead Skulls collage #3136 fussy cut around each piece before adhering with a Glue …

Playing Dead

This Day of the Dead project  took a while but it was so much fun.
Sabor papers were used as a base and The Crafters Workshop  Floating City by Art by Marlene piece I did earlier this month was the backdrop for some photos.

Each of the Sabor 12 x 12 sheets was cut and used as individual cards.  Embellishing them was so very much fun.   I used AlteredPages collage sheets and created words that were printed and cut out.  One of those times to grab all the stuff you may have in drawers or bins.  Fibers, buttons, washi tape, gems all have some room on these festive cards! I have my favorites, but choose which are your favorites and say so in the comments below!   I used both glue and double-sided tape to assemble the pieces, always doing a layout BEFORE gluing!
