Guest Artist ~ Pam Bray

Altered Pages is very excited to welcome  Pam Bray as our first Guest Design Artist! Hi, I am excited to be a Guest Designer today....I live in Memphis, TN, home of blues and BBQ.   I am a wife, mom of 4 and grandma to 9 very amazing grandchildren if I must say so myself.     I have been scrapbooking for the last 15 years. I love paper crafting, altered projects, and card making, layouts, etc. The last few years I have been published in several magazines and am currently on several wonderful design teams.   I love Diet Coke and chocolate so they must be close at hand when I am creating.  I would like to share my Window Book Chipboard Book I designed for SinCity Stamp using Graphic 45 French Country that you can get in Altered Pages Store. I love that you get the squares with the Window Chipboard Book and used a couple of them to add photos to when I decide what I want to use my book for.... this little butterfly comes with the book along with other chipboard p

Watercolor -ish

There are so many ways to play with Gelatos . Altered Pages carries one of the best selections. My favorite would be the tropical set.  One way I have always wanted to try was on a card or tag for the illusion of watercolor.  Take your rubber stamp and pick your Gelato stick color of choice. Here I have a nice green for the stems of the roses. Apply the Gelato directly onto the stamp keep the tip flat. Do this lightly, there is no need to press head because they are creamy like a lip butter for your lips.  I did the same here with a pink and different shade of green for the leaves. You can use both red rubber and clear for this technique. Next mist the stamp to activate the Gelatos. Press stamp on card in desired place. You can create all sort of beautiful Tags ,ATC's and Cards  with this simple look. Be sure to take a look at our large selection of stamps . We carry some unique one of kind.  Happy Creating Melanie Statnick

Memories of Paris Tag - Niji Waterbrush Love!

Ink Stained Roni here and I have to say....I LOVE my Niji Waterbrush !  Yes, I'd shout it from the roof tops if it weren't so snowy & icey!  I've had my Niji Waterbrush for probably 15 years now and it's still going strong.  It's not only one of my most loved tools it's also one of the most used tools in my artsy tool box.   Today I wanted to share my "Memories of Paris" tag with you that I created using a combination of my waterbrush , Niji Pearl Watercolors and a few other goodies found at Altered Pages (for complete list of supplies see the bottom of the post.). I started off by stamping my very Parisian looking woman and coloring her with my Waterbrush and Distress Stains.  I love how you can add layer after layer of ink with the waterbrush, you can create such depth. Next I painted several collage images using Niji's Pearl Watercolor Paint & the Waterbrush..  The tag was also painted using the Pearl paints....

The Wonders of the Niji Water Brush

Happy Monday all!  I hope your week is getting off to a good start.  Today, I want to share a few observations I've made recently using some fabulous products from Altered Pages .  This month, we are cross-promoting with Niji  water brushes .    If you have any, then you know how fabulous they are.  If you have no idea what they are, I am going to share with you the wonders of the water brush! Niji Water brush, Niji pearlescent watercolors, AP collage image While working on my upcoming Two for Tuesday post (will be available tomorrow), I really got into some cool techniques while using my Niji  water brushes  .  A full tutorial and supply list for my project will be available then, but for now, I just want to discuss some of my fun discoveries. One of the products I used with my  water brushes  was also made by the same company, Yasutomo .  It is their Niji pearlescent watercolors .  These are a translucent, but pearlized, watercolor with a tiny bit of beautiful shimmer.

Postcard Art

This month the design teams from Yatsumoto and Altered Pages are cross promoting products... the design team at Altered Pages has had the opportunity this month to use the Niji Waterbrush.  I must admit I was a bit reluctant to use it. Now that I have worked with the Niji waterbrush on a few projects this month, I am sold.  I really like my Niji and would will to have a few more in my tool box! Today I decied to create on one of the new postcards available a Altered Pages!  Around the edge of the postcard I lightly applied my Gelatos.  With a damp Niji Waterbrush blend the Gelatos.  Spritz the postcard with Shimmer Mist to finish the background.  Age the My Style scrap from the Mailbox Muse Kit, with Gelaltos and Niji Waterbrush. Fussy cut girl and cat from the Altered Pages  Perfect Pets Collage Sheet  glue to scrap from the Mailbox Muse Kit, adhere to card.  Add another piece to paper to anchor the card.  Give the girl a crown trimmed with Dew Drops.  Stamp Dylusions h

A little birdie told me...

Happy Friday! Welcome to the blog today. The  Altered Pages  Design Team is very fortunate to be working with Niji and Yasutomo  for the month of February. Please take a minute to take a look at their sites. There is great inspiration as well as tools for all of your art and crafting needs at both locations.  Today I am showing you a cute little bird I created to sit atop an altered book I have been working on. The book had its own theme going on, but it needed something to be the focal point. So, with a little sparrow shape that I cut out of card stock and vintage text pages  I have just what the book cover needed. The book is a salvage piece from a law firm move. They were recycling literally thousands of books and I grabbed as many as my hands could carry and by hands I mean the back of my SUV. SCORE!   To start I sketched out a bird shape on to a scrap piece of card stock and then cut her out. I then basically made individual templates of vintage text pages, one for

Doodling and Painting

I am glad I had a post today, it made me stop and be creative instead of working on business things.   As my job title states, Head Honcho and Janitor!    There are always things that have to be done, so it's good to things we WANT to do!   I am guilty of putting fun aside too often, makes for a grumpy girl!   We are so proud to partner with Yasutomo for this month.   They provide fine quality products at very affordable prices.  We are proud to carry many of the products of Niji (Japanese for rainbow) I had done this doodle in an online class by Sandi Tygar, a wonderful instructor and it sat waiting for me to work on it again.    It is large and was done on a Dessin 70 # sheet 11x14 inches.  Not your usual size for doodling!    I did use a black .05 Micron Pen .    It is a fun, yet major undertaking! I decided to incorporate my Niji Pearlescent Water Color Palett e, I used the 16 pots size. I used my Niji waterbrush .   I like the mini size, easy for travel &a
