Love is in the Air and My Art Journal

Hi Everyone!  Danie here with you today sharing a snippet of a page I have been playing at in my Art Journal.  Do you ever have those days where you start with an idea and you run with it only to be lead elsewhere.  That's what pretty much happened with the this page. I started with some Vintage Text Pages and Glitz Papers  which I had used last week to make a Valentine's Day Card with along two Chipboard Scroll Corners all Altered Pages Products and my Faber Castell Gelatos in two colors.   I covered the Scroll Corners with the Rose Paper and wanted to use them to frame my stamped LOVE which is from the Glitz Love Games Clear Stamp Set also from Altered Pages.  I was sort of going for something a little Shabby Chic/Romantic which is totally not my usual style. Some Vintage Lace, Pearl Dew Drops, Roses from my stash and some further stamping embellish this page further along with a few hand drawn hearts and some basic faux stitching. I now just have to add a

An Old Fashion Valentine!

It is time to make some  old fashioned Victorian Valentines! Give a special someone in your life a handmade Valentine! With lace, paper doilies, glitter and a sweet image. Did you know,  Valentine's Day reached its height of celebration during the Victorian Era?  Or that some Valentines were so thick with layers of paper and embellishments they were given in presentation boxes.   The image for this Valentine is from the Victorian Valentine collage sheet. It was first adhered to a thin piece of chipboard  (about the thickness of a cereal box) and then  fussy cut.  Also cut a heart from the chipboard slightly smaller than the largest doily.  Adhere the large  doily to the chipboard, glue lace around the backside edge of the chipboard. Add lace around the backside of the smaller heart.  Attach smaller heart to the larger heart. Use a black marker and carefully edge the fussy cut images.   Attach  lace around the heart in the image. Attach the images with foam tap

Dance Like Nobody is Watching....

All of us here at Altered Pages have been having fun creating projects for January's Snow Dancing Challenge , myself included!  Here is the card I made.... Dance like nobody is watching...   It may not look it but the skater and the background are actually two separate images.  I started off by printing and painting the background with Pearlescent Watercolor paints by Niji.  They are an amazing watercolor paint with I think mica mixed in.  They give you an amazing shimmer and shine that is so hard to pick up with the camera.   Next I colored the skater with my Sectrum Noir markers and added a bit of Flower Soft to her costume (bottom of her dress, sleeves, neckline & hair piece).  I then cut her out and mounted her to the card with double stick foam tape to make her look like she's leaping right off the card!   The flourishes were cut using some of the Glitter Silk Paper and I have to tell you it's beautiful stuff!  The stunning colors really add th

Love is in the air!

I'm Baaaaack! Becky here, finally! After a long hiatus from the team to move 30 miles across town & get settled through the holidays, I have finally unpacked my studio & ready to play with you all again! I don't know about you, but once the New Year is over, I start thinking "Valentines!" My sister & another gal-pal & I were saying that we love to make Valentine's cards, but hardly ever send them out to anyone other than our significant others & then we never see them again...they end up in a box for other loved ones to find when we're gone! Well, phooey to that! So, I decided to make an altered spool for my Valentine that can sit atop his desk for a bit {before it's placed in a box somewhere! LOL!} Altered Pages has so many wonderful images to play with for Valentines & other "Love" occasions, like weddings & anniversaries. The 2 images I used on this project are from the " Young Lovers

Plum Blossom and Water Lily

What do you know about Chinese New Year? It is a happy and fun celebration for ALL. 2013 is The Year of the Snake.    There is actually a week long celebration called the Golden Festival in China for each New Year.   Red and Gold are the colors associated with the celebration and for good luck and prosperity in general.   The Chinese New Year, which is the first day of the first month, in the Chinese calendar is assigned to an animal. According to one belief, Buddha promised gifts to all animals that would pay him homage. Only 12 animals came to honor Buddha so, to favor these 12 animals, each one was given one of the 12 years of the Chinese zodiac. People born during one of the animal's years are said to inherit distinctive characteristics of that animal. The signs repeat every 12 years.  We will post the 12 animals on the challenge page in February. Chinese New Year is the most important and longest of all Chinese festivals, celebrated in communities thr

Gelling with my Gelli

A few months ago, I ordered my Gelli from AlteredPages.com and found that I was not quite sure what I would do on my maiden voyage into the world of Gelli. I watched my friends create beautiful pieces of mixed media artwork and I watched videos of instructors touting all the cool things you could do with the Gelli Plate. But finally it was this technique that I discovered on the Gelli Pinterest Page that caught my eye. My biggest fear of the plate has always been this : I would work TOO SLOW and it would all dry and there I'd be...stuck with a painted Gelli. Imagine my relief that TAPE would take the paint OFF and not ruin my plate!  *insert you Snoopy Happy Dance here*  SO...packing tape in hand I gathered my supplies and VOILA! gather supplies: Gelli Plate, Acrylic Paint, Packing Tape Gather toys to stamp into the paint Paint, stamp, play. Leave open spaces with NO PAINT. Be patient and let it dry. Smooth on packing tape and then LIFT. These are just a fe

Travelling on My Mind

Hi Everyone it's Danie here today with a project I love making!  An Envelope Mini Album.  For this one I had a male/travel theme which seems to be where my mind has been lately as I have been planning a short trip away for my husbands birthday in February.  The beauty of these albums are quick and easy to make and they can be made in a variety of styles and varying pocket designs. Apart from the Versamark Ink, White Embossing Powder and Cream Card-stock strip on the front cover everything used to make this album is from Altered Pages . Supplies: Bazzill A2 Scallop Cards and Envelopes Glitz French Kiss Papers Maya Road Chipboard Scroll Corners Glitz Happy Travels Clear Stamp Set Co-ordinations Cardstock Paris Trunk Inks - Walnut and Gold Tiara. My inside pages are a combination of the French Kiss Papers, Embossed Core-dinations Cardstock and the Glitz Happy Travels Stamps.  Each of the alternating pages apart from the inside covers has a pocket for tags e

Valentine's from Around the World

I have always enjoyed the beautiful cards of Valentine's Day.  The pretty flowers, the colors and the special sentiments can't help but catch your eye.  I created this pedestal card to showcase the wonderful collage sheets from Altered Pages .  I love the Valentines of Nations (AP 2032) collage sheet.  It brings together the day of love and cultures from around the world.  I wanted to bring more attention to this collage so I decided to use a piece of black card stock that was painted using the fabulous pearlescent watercolor paints that Altered Pages carries.  After it had dried I ran it through my embossing machine using the swirls die also from AP.  Of course what card is complete without some gorgeous patterned paper and embellishments?  I added some hearts patterned paper from the Hello Friend Paper Pad by Glitz .  Then, I added some pink brads for the center of the flowers (what's Valentine's Day without flowers, right?)  and the heart from the Happy T

It's a COLD Sunday in Arizona!

First I must tell you!   It's been below freezing in Arizona, yes even in the city of Phoenix.   Our average in January i s in the 60's.   M any people have been sc rambling to find coa ts and gloves to wear !    Keep Cozy wherever you a re! Do you always feel free when you create?   I know I sometimes hit a wall or stumbling block, not feeling the freedom to let my art flow. There are two different products at AlteredPages.com that will make you 'loose and easy' with your art, giving you a sense of total freedom.  We will showcase Gelli P rinting today.   WAIT UNTIL YOU SEE THESE VIDEOS - SCRUMPTIOUS   First the Gelli Plate :     This tool is one of the most fantastic items ever.   It allows you to mono print (have you ever done that) which sounds like a really fancy technique, maybe you tried monoprinting in art classes.   Definition - Monoprints are known as the most painterly method among the printmaking techniques; it is essentially a printed paint

Let Me Read Your Palm!

Thank you Jean for inviting me to be a member of this awesome Design Team!  I love collage and am excited to work with the wonderful products Altered Pages has to offer. My inspiration was the beautiful image of the lady above, found on this  P aris Collage Sheet !! This collage is created on a Manila Tag . First, paint a light blue wash with   Pearlescent Watercolors . Once it was dry use a brown ink  and stamp swirls, then ink the edges of the tag and image and ink a vintage white paper doily and white lace.  With a fine pen write "Let me read your palm" on the image. Adhere the doily, lace and image. From my personal stash I added the feather, chipboard palm, heart rhinestone and feather  with Sakura Crystal Lacquer . Complete it with the finishing touches a bit of ribbon and glitter!

You won't be disappointed.   Have a wonderful day ~ Ink Stained Roni

SUNDAY BETWEEN THE LINES

DO YOU READ BETWEEN THE LINES? DO YOU HEAR THE EXTRA NOTE? DO YOU ADD YOUR OWN IMAGE TO WHAT YOU SEE? YOU ARE WHAT IS CALLED AN ARTIS T.   Jean here on Sunday.  I was journaling and looking for images to fit my mood.   While I am not necessarily a Fairy person, I was struck by the ethereal beauty of the  AP collage 514 Fairy Dreams .   Fairies tell us anything is possible and even probable!      The book is hand sewn using waxed threads and heavy weight watercolor paper.   A recycled hardback book cover is used as well.   The Fairies were cut from the collage and applied to fabric which I misted with the Maya Mists and then outlined with our Micron Pigma Brush Pen .   I used old torn sheet music on which I used an ink sweeper and Paris Trunk Walnut ink to help age the paper.   I really do like the soft effects Paris Trunk inks give, they can be deep but soft at the same time.   I also used Crystal Lacquer to adhere the papers due to their fragi

All Tangled Up for the New Year...

for this project you will need 4×4" Chipboard Squares Niji Pearlescent Watercolors Niji Waterbrushes Collage Sheets : Redoute II and Redoute III Pigma Micron Pens Paris Trunk Pad Walnut Brown gesso Process: 1. Gesso each Chipboard Square and set aside to dry. 2. With a mister, spritz the colors of the Niji Pearlescent WC that you wish to use--I find that pre-moistening the colors give them a fuller coverage. If you prefer the more sheer look then simply add water with your brush on the dry cake. Apply this shiny watercolor to your surface however you desire...I love the look of brushed splotches--almost dry brushed--and then speckles of color flicked from an old toothbrush. Set aside to dry. 3. use a template to trace letters or freehand letters on floral collage papers and cut out. Adhere letters to individual tiles. I used the letters of my word of the year B L O O M. 4. With Micron pens doodle/Zentangle® around the letters. This is my favorite par

Out with the Old and In with the New

As It's Out with the Old and in with the New Remember  Altered Pages has  Something for Everything Arty You Do Hi Everyone - It's Danie Here today.  Happy New Year to you all! After the whirl wind that was the lead up to Christmas I have managed to find a few moments to create this past week with some of the great products you will find at Altered Pages. I utilized some left over Christmas Collage Images along with some stamps, ink and a black pen, to make some Moo Cards for the Christmas/New Year ATART (Art Tradeathon)  over at ATC's For All. And today my Vintage Text Pages made fabulous flower centers for my first week lesson's drawing/journal page for Life Book 2013 which I have signed up for this year. The New Year also means the setting of new goals and making new art supply wish lists.  I'd love to know what is on your wish list, so why not leave us a comment, as you never know who might see your wish and it may just come
